Haunted Doll

We had been trying to come up with something new to add to our arsenal of ghost hunting equipment/triggers, something different. We thought maybe some kind of antique, maybe with something attached to it. So we took a trip to the local Antique store here in Downingtown. There were 4 of us, Dawn, Juli, Linda and Chuck (myself) we were open to anything that would give off the right energy but we were mainly looking for an old doll. This particular store had 3. One was a little baby girl doll that the eyes would open and close depending on the position of the doll. The second one was also a baby girl doll that had movable arms. The 3rd one was a boy doll. He had light hair, blue eyes and prominent lips. I had picked up the doll to look at him and my index and middle fingers began to vibrate. The vibration lasted about 5 seconds. I told the others what had happened but in the long run we decided to wait and visit a couple of other antique stores in the area. We all went to our respective homes and about a half hour later I get a call from Juli telling me that Colleen who is also a member of D.A.P.I. and is very sensitive and hadn’t been able to make it to the antique store with us that day  just called her to ask her if while at the antique store did we find a boy doll? It turns out the night before we went to the antique store; Colleen had a dream about a boy doll. In her dream she was sitting in a rocking chair in a log cabin, rocking this little boy doll. In her dream she was saying to the people who were around her (she had no idea who they were) that this was a boy doll, but that he was so life-like that at first she thought it was a real little boy. In Colleen’s dream the boy doll had light hair, blue eyes and prominent lips. When Colleen described what the doll in her dream looked like to Juli, Juli just about fell off her chair. Colleen told Juli that this is what we were looking for and Juli went back to the antique store a bought the doll. When Colleen finally saw the doll (we call him Timmy) she thought that he was a conduit or pipeline to another dimension or source of information. We took Timmy to his first investigation the following Monday. Juli who is not a sensitive but does get impressions was holding Timmy. She said she was sensing information that she ordinarily wouldn’t have been able to. She said the impressions were so much stronger than what she normally would get.

Colleen had taken the doll to an investigation at a local haunted restaurant. There was a woman working there who said she felt like the doll’s name was Gregory. We gave him the nickname Tingles because my fingers had vibrated the first time I held him. Hence Gregory Tingles. In the 1st EVP we find out that his name is not Gregory Tingles.

The origins of the Mel Meter

Did you know that the Mel Meter was born out of the death of the daughter of it’s creator? Following is a very interesting story that I found online.

The Mel-8704 was specifically designed for Paranormal Investigators. Many important features have been incorporated into this durable, precision hand held instrument. The backlight display has a dual purpose. It can be turned On or OFF manually for display viewing in dark areas, and is also bright enough so that it can be used in total darkness to navigate stairwells, corridors and door ways. Illumination of objects up to 8' away is possible with this special display once your eyes become adjusted to the light. The very large, clear display shows EMF and Ambient Temperature simultaneously to provide instant feedback when there is an EMF or Temperature change in the surrounding area. This display can be viewed up to 15' away when positioned using the table top tilt stand or tripod mount. This Instrument was designed by Pro-measure for Paranormal enthusiasts, and is manufactured by Lutron, the same company that makes the popular EMF-822A that you see used by the TAPS Team and other Paranormal Investigators Worlwide. Exclusive Design For Paranormal Investigators • Custom Dual Display • EMF "Burst" Mode Feature for Rapid EMF Detection • Measurement Ranges: 20, 200, 2000 uTesla 200, 2000, 20,000 mGauss • Super Bright Custom Backlight Display with On/Off Button • Fast Response Thermocouple Temperature Sensor • Record Feature Captures Min & Max Values • Single Axis

Gary Galka's (designer) daughter was named Melissa. He had always called her "Mel" for short since the time she was very young. I can relate to this, because I call my own daughter Ana when her full name is Anastasia. Several years ago Melissa, or "Mel," was on her way home one evening around midnight. For some unknown reason, she swerved off of the road and struck a tree. She sustained horrible injuries that night, which occurred on September 24, 2004. Mel was born in 1987. She was on life-support until September 28th, before her family made the decision to stop the life support, and she passed away. It was not long afterward that Gary’s new found interest in the paranormal field began. The MEL 8704, one of Gary's inventions that came out of that, was named for Mel, with the 87 being from the year of her birth, and the 04 from the year she passed away.

The following details about Mel's death are directly from a telephone interview with Vince Wilson: “From the moment my wife and I and two daughters got home,” Gary explained, “Mel began to let us know that she was still around.” Gary explained how Mel began playing around with electronics in the house. The TV, radio and lights would come on and turn off and switch channels by themselves. “We could smell her perfume,” he added, “Over a period of time we could feel her hugs and kisses.” These experiences didn’t just happen to him either. His wife Cindy, and daughters Heather and Jennifer also had these wonderful After Death Communications (ADC’s) as well. They all believe that Mel reached out to them in order to help them heal and move forward with their lives. Within six months of her passing, Gary and his wife began to reach out and help other bereaved parents in their homes and through the formation of grief counseling groups. He began researching the paranormal and related topics to better understand what was going on in this field. After reading several books, and watching a few of the paranormal shows on television it became apparent that most paranormal enthusiasts had to resort to using mainstream gadgets and devices that were typically intended for a totally different purpose. Many were modified or adapted to suit the application of paranormal research. Gary, with over 30 years of test and measurement experience sat down and began to design the Mel-Meter. Not only to help give the paranormal community a push forward, but the biggest accomplishment, as Gary explained with pride is that, “Most of the proceeds from the Mel product series goes directly to grief support charities such as Compassionate Friends and other known charity organizations”.

Endless Love

We have an interesting case coming up this month. We received a call from a man the other day who claims that his fiancé who has been deceased about a year has started haunting him.  It had seemed odd that she would start haunting him now after all this time. Turns out the client has recently decided to start dating again and every time he tries to do anything involved with meeting a woman, his fiancé starts acting up. He’s had digital photos on his camera to fail. His friend was taking a photo of the client to show to a female friend, the 1st photo of the client he was blurry  and in the 2nd attempt there is something standing behind him.  Emails that he has written to a possible love interest disappear from his computer before he gets the chance to send them. His cursor on his computer will move around the screen including moving to a specific location on the screen when asked to do so. His cats have also been acting strange lately. The client understandably is a little freaked out and irritated. Needless to say we are very interested in helping this man get his life back on track and maybe help his fiancé cross over. We’ll post again when the investigation is complete.

Help DAPI make it’s first documentary.

DAPI is working on its first documentary. It's going to be on the Twin Tunnels in Downingtown. What we're looking for are people who have verifiable historical information about the Tunnels. For instance, Why are they called The Twin Tunnels? there are actually 3 tunnels. We'd also like to know when they were built, were there any accidents during the construction of the tunnels. (We captured a very interesting EVP indicating that there was an accident)

We’re are also looking for people who have stories about , and experiences in the Tunnels.

We've all heard about the woman who with baby in arms, hung herself in the opening in the middle of the tunnel dropping the baby to its death and if you stop in the middle of the tunnel and listen you can hear the baby crying. Did you ever hear the baby crying? Do you have recordings of this encounter? strange pictures? We've also heard about the man who hung himself in the middle of the tunnel opening as well. These events maybe just folklore. We want to be sure.

What we know to be true is a woman's body was found in a suit case in the 3rd tunnel by a fisherman in 1995. More information can be found here.

The Doe Network

It was always rumored that a biker gang had killed the woman, dismembered her and spread her remains around Chester and Bucks County. No one has ever been arrested for the crime and "Suitcase Jane Doe" has never been identified. We have  an EVP of a woman saying the name "Mary" Was Mary the name of Jane Doe?

If you are interested in being part of this effort please drop us an Email

We will be conducting interviews during the next several months collecting  information. Your privacy will be protected/respected. We will not release or publish the name of any person who assists us in this endeavor unless you grant us permission to do so.

Thank you.

Another successful Ghost Walk for Downingtown

For a third year Downingtown Historical and Parks and Downingtown Area Paranormal Investigators presented The Downingtown Ghost Walk. The event sold out both nights. This year we added a new option which was a sit down tour held at the Minquas Fire Station. It was well received and we’ll be offering it again next year.

This years Walk was especially good because we got to investigate 3 private house's in the borough and show the evidence on the walk. DAPI thanks these home owners for allowing us into their homes.

All photo’s are being posted to the web sit and can be found here, http://www.downingtownparanormal.com/investigations.html

Thanks to everybody who came out to the 2011 Downingtown Ghost Walk.

DAPI’s first class comes to an end.

DAPI’s last class of The Ghost Hunting Experience ended on Sunday night. I think everybody came away with a better understanding of ghost hunting and the tools used to capture and record the evidence. We even had a reporter from the Downingtown Dish come for the investigation. She wrote a very informative article on the class. Click here to read the article.

In the next couple of weeks we will be posting the evidence that the class captured during their investigation.

DAPI will be holding other future classes and events. Please check out the web site www.downingtownparanormal.com for updated investigation evidence and future events. You can also email us at info@downingtownparanormal.com and we’ll put you on our mailing list and you’ll be notified when future events are coming up.

Would be ghost hunters getting schooled.

DAPI’s first class is off to a great start. We have 10 brave soles in the class and everything is going great.  Everyone seems like they are enjoying themselves and hopefully learning something. When we asked the class why they took the course the answers ranged from interest to having experiences of their own.

We had one student who has had 2 personal experiences the night of the investigation. In first incidence she was engulfed in a cold spot. In the second incidence she was standing next to a partition wall in the upstairs girls room bathroom (which always seems to have something paranormal going on) and the wall pushed in toward her. There was no one else in the room with her at the time.

This has also been a great experience for DAPI as well. We’ve met a great group of people who share the driving interest of DAPI, and that is to discover and document paranormal activity.

DAPI was formed out of a like class a few years ago. Hopefully if they have the desire, this class could start it’s own ghost hunting group.

We’ll probably be doing similar classes in the near future so keep checking our web site for information. www.downingtownparanormal.com

You can also sent us an email requesting that we add your email to our mailing list and when we have future events in place we’ll send you an email letting you know that an event or class is being offered. info@downingtownparanormal.com

D.A.P.I. is holding Class.

D.A.P.I.is proud to announce; The Ghost Hunting Experience with Downingtown Area Paranormal Investigators. This class is available through DARC Downingtown Area Recreational Consortium. http://www.darcinfo.com/

The class runs for 4 weeks on Sundays, April 3, 10, 17, and May 1 from 7Pm to 9 PM at the Alert 1 Fire house. As you may or may not know the Alert 1 Fire house was a featured stop on the Downingtown Ghost Walk the last two years and is considered to be one of the more haunted locations in the town. This is good news for the class participants because you stand a good chance of capturing evidence of the several sprits know to inhabit the station.

Please visit http://www.darcinfo.com/ for more information and Registration.
